From exercise science to Security Consultant: Gabriela has changed tack

Background

Why I chose Nestor Security

A background in exercise science is not the most obvious thing when starting a Security Consultant Traineeship, but nevertheless I accepted the challenge. After graduation, I first gained experience as a recruiter in which I played an important role in guiding candidates to a new challenge.

After a year, I did start to miss the mental challenge and development opportunities so I started to explore the IT market further. The field of information security soon caught my interest and seemed like the challenge I was looking for. Both in the area of giving advice, but also to be able to break yourself down on Security issues. I came across the Traineeship Security Consultant at Nestor Security and thanks to the positive stories I had already heard, I applied.

The Security Consultant traineeship

By now, we are some time down the road and I have enjoyed working at Nestor Security for almost 5 months now. The first few weeks flew by. I learned a lot about the company, but also about information security and privacy. The fact that in my first week I was allowed to go along to different customers made it a bit exciting, but also very fun. This is because you can immediately apply your knowledge in practice. This really appealed to me because I like to help realize the ambitions and wishes of clients and I can see how my work contributes to this.

The collaboration with different clients is very diverse, so you learn new things every day. Because the traineeship Security Consultant is still in its infancy, I also get to think about the further interpretation and possible adjustments for future colleagues. This is what makes Nestor Security such a great company; all knowledge is of great value, no matter what background you have.

My future at Nestor

Currently there are several assignments lined up for me and also attending trainings and courses is something that is central for me in the coming time. Last month I already had the CIPP/E certificate achieved, which is considered the European standard in the field of privacy.

The role of Security Consultant is very dynamic. You are always busy with different projects, so you have to be able to keep a good overview. Planning and being organized are fortunately nice qualities that I was able to develop from a young age. Don't be afraid to jump into the deep end, as long as you dare to ask for help you will always come out on top. Especially at Nestor Security!
