Wendy's focus on information security grew during her HBO-ICT studies, which is why she chose the Security Consultant traineeship. She has now been part of the team for a year and serves her own clients independently. In this blog post she talks about her experience with the traineeship at Nestor Security.
How long have you worked at Nestor Security?
I have been working as a security consultant at Nestor security for a year now and started as a trainee. I had just left school, so I still had to learn everything. I studied HBO-ICT with a minor in privacy management, which is how I came into contact with the AVG. I find both the AVG and security interesting subjects, which is why I chose the traineeship.
What did the traineeship look like?
In the first three weeks you attend training sessions with colleagues and work on a case that is a sketch of a real organization. The case is actually a small version of reality, which helps you learn a lot about information security. Next, you slowly start taking over small tasks from experienced consultants and that becomes more and more, at a certain moment you can also go along to customers. You will also learn a lot about standards frameworks and legislation and obtain certifications, for which you will have plenty of time.
What does your role look like now?
A year later, I am independently serving my own clients. I have learned an awful lot in one year, making it possible so quickly. I currently perform ISO implementations and internal audits at various companies, checking whether they have their information security in order. I can also be deployed as a security officer, continuously ensuring that an organization remains secure.
Would you recommend the traineeship?
Sure! Even if you don't have an IT background, you could very well roll into this position. You will have very nice colleagues who always want to help you and a lot of personal attention is given to you through a coaching model. This traineeship is a very nice start to your career as a security professional.
